Year 2024
"Through the Dust" is a biographical picture book, depicting my grandmother Lola’s early life in the impoverished American South during the early 20th century. Created as my graduation seminar, the book blends personal history with artistic expression, inspired by family photo albums, Great Depression-era archives, and American art. The hand-drawn illustrations capture both the vastness of the American landscape and the profound sense of loneliness within the American spirit.
